Today I felt like wearing an outfit that corresponds more to what I wear in RL, and the type of clothing I enjoy most. In my “real life”, I wear a LOT of plain men’s tees and unisex gear, and I admit….I’m one of those kids with an american apparel filled closet. I prefer cool shapes and colors in contrast to …you know….that other stuff.

So, I’d like to show you how some menswear can be worn in SL. The trick is to not go COMPLETELY to the other side, or else you just look like a thin man with breasts. Also, beware of items with too much shading, as this can give you muscles and manly bits Unless you dig that.

1. Glasses-[Random] Industries : I’m not sure if these are simply men’s, or if they are unisex…But hey, I made them unisex! Glasses give a ‘cherry-on-top’ effect for this look, just adding a hint of sexiness. I was hoping to find some huge coke-bottle types, but these work fine as well. Some ‘Woody Allen’ glasses would work too. I’m also a sucker for brights, hence the lime.

2. Baggy Shirt-[Random] Industries : Garbage Prototype (the designer for Random) is great at making Asexual clothing, even if not intended. I love the folds on this shirt, it looks just the right amount of baggy, without looking pajama-tee-shirt baggy. Also, this is actually for women, but I think could work on either sex. Alot of his menswear is wearable for women as well. (Btw it comes in a fatpack with a bevy of different colors…and correct me if im wrong…but i believe it was somewhere around 30 lindens)

3. Bright Leggings-Devilish Cupcake : Okay, I’m sorry, I just love neon clothes, okay? Of course to make this outfit still feminine, we need a bright color! And disco leggings scream cool. These also come in a fatpack with every neon color you could possible think of.

4. Oxfords-Tesla : OKAY. The piece de resistance! Tesla’s Oxfords for men! Now these….*dies a little*, are my favourite! In RL I have a pair similar, those simple white canvas lace-ups , that you can buy at those discount stores for like, 10 bucks. I love them! They exude laid-back art student. And if you aren’t a laid back art student, who cares, pretend you are. BTW to fit them, click them (scripted, yay!), and minimize them by 10% twice. (so 20% in total, and for each foot)

5. Messy Hair-Minnu Model Skins : I picked up this hair this morning, and it goes great with the look. A pixie style would work just as well, but I kind of liked the whole Kurt Cobain-feel this one gave. Now I need to go watch some Gus Van Sant movies.

You might have been aware of this last week, but on the off chance that you weren’t, I’m going to remind you! Last week the great skin and clothing shop, Beauty Avatar, came out with a brand new line of skins entitled Callisto. These beautifully constructed female skins come in 3 different skin tones, and 4 different makeups.

I decided to show my two favourites, the Soft Smoke version and the Black version.

Soft smoke is more of a “light” look, preferable for daytime, what with its rosy lips and cheeks, and subtle black eyeliner. I must also mention how cute the nose is on this skin! To my eye, the nose is definitely memorable, what with its cute upturned end. The eyes also have a piercing, memorizing shape to them.

Black is definitely more of a night look, one that I would wear dancing or perhaps to a fashion show or event. It has this beautiful deep smoky eye-shadow and pouty pink lips! A winner for sure.

I should also mention that Beauty Avatar has

some really, really great clothes, and some of my favourite jeans in SL. I’ll be doing another post on these in next few days, so stay tuned!

It was a dull day last week when I teleported into the Rue D’antibes shopping Sim. Having nothing to do other than wander, I figured I’d pop into random shops, see if there was anything new and interesting. Intrigued by a shop covered in black and fuschia, I decided to walk in, and to my surprise was VERY excited! This said shop was Mimikri, a designer I had yet to hear about, and was so happy to see such beautiful clothes! Mimikri Kit designs clothing that is certainly eye catching, like sequins galore, contrasting fabrics, and ultra glamour. Definitly among my favourites were the Minx jacket and NEWLY released today, the Chloe dress (the top and skirt can also be worn seperately). The Minx jacket makes me think of a Nu Wave puffer, so futuristic and stylish! The Chloe comes in a number of different colors, and has Mimikri’s extremely realistic trademark sequins! Perfect for a night out :).

Whilst roaming around on my flickr yesterday, I noticed Triangle Caudron had posted some new pics of a really awesome looking dress….curious, I clicked on the thumbnails, and was excited to see her new release, Rain!  I had never met Triangle in world, but I was determined to review this kickass outfit!  So, ballsy as I am, I IM’d her and ordered she send me the dress! Okay…lies…I was all like “i love you and your dress, cause you and your dress are totally fabulous” and such.  And it’s true.  This girl has mad style! So you might have seen this dress on the feeds already today (Kallisto Destiny also blogged the dress, check her blog out!!), but I’d like to present my version, complete with 2 Colts.  I felt this dress deserved some weapons, some gritty backgrounds, as well as a sweet as pie skin and childish hair.  Contrast is your friend, people!  Anyhoo, the dress comes in about a zillion different outfit combos, which was so much fun to photograph.  Check it out!

Ever notice those women in SL who seem to wear Stilletto Moodies (did I even spell that right?meehhh!) everyday, and consistently have that “Glam” aura? You know, metallic dress, black tights, pumps, and pompadour hairdo with cascading ponytail…Yeah, you know who I mean. Anyway, sometimes I’m that girl. Minus the Stilletto Moodies . That sh*t’s nuts. (excuse me, I’m just not rollin in dough hereeee)…But today I felt like reverting to my casual self, my college self, my self that doesn’t wake before noon, and when I do, I drink coffee like it’s water. So, I dressed in my good old tried and true “student” wear, and headed down to Mill pond, home to the great cafe, Open Latte. Beware of a lagfest, that place is mad trendy right now. Think “Central Perk” from Friends, but SL style. If you can excuse the lag factor, you should head down there for a fantastic latte, and some great company :). BTW. Random is having a GREAT sale right now, where I picked up this tee for only 30 lindens! Also, jeans for 5L (yeah…5!!) and other insanely cheap items. Garbage Prototype is making way for 200+ new items, coming April 1st! I suggest you head down there, pronto.

P.S I’ll be using the pseudonym “Stella S, Fashion Mess” from now on, and will be for the most part, blogging for the iheartsl.com group blog, and no longer my blogspot.com blog. Blogging here gives us *struggling* (lol) bloggers a larger audience for our articles, and blogging the same thing here and on my personal blog is quite tedious. Plus, I have a lot of fun being part of such a great group of people, and reading everyone’s fantastic posts!

I’m so happy to join the group blog, it’s given me a litttttle push to continue blogging.  I think ever blogger sometimes finds themselves in a lull, and this just might be the thing to pull me out of it!  I was so sad when the feed went down :(, but atleast now we have an open blog, an idea I think is fantastic!

So, for my first post, I’d like to blog the new location of <3 Cupcakes!  I’ve always been a huge fan of Mimi Coral’s work, it has always been of the best quality…and…hello…SO inexpensive!  It’s nice to see someone who doesn’t take advantage of pricing in SL.  She’s also super friendly, I remember once I had lost a dress that I had JUST bought, and I was so disapointed.  I informed Mimi, and in a few seconds, I had my dress sent to me! A+ for customer service

So I visited the new location today, which is built on a beautiful grand scale, with a nice open feel.  What I found was really cool, was that there were a few <3 Cupcakes models rotating on pose stands, displaying the new skins and shapes available, as well as some great outfits.  So interactive!
