How High Can You Go?

20916 I’ve been having a little fun with the new Avatar Rendering Cost info display in the latest viewer. In a nutshell, this feature tells you just how hard your graphics processor has to work to render all of your attachments, as well as the attachments of any avatar that happens to be nearby.

I decide to see just how high I could get my score. Can anybody top 20916? I don’t recommend trying this anywhere but the most sparsely populated areas, and PLEASE, don’t try it at any events I am attending!

It seems like objects that have a lot of alpha textured prims, including some of my favorite skirts and hairs, can really up your cost in a hurry. And out of all the attachments I am wearing in this picture, the worst offenders are things you can’t even see..two highly detailed weapons that are holstered!

Will this forever change the way I shop and dress? Probably not, but I will be more careful about which items I combine, and will try to keep my total cost under 1000 for everyday, and lower for crowded events.

I agree, about 1000 is reasonable for mooching around, under 500 for busy areas/events. Alpha textures (or using the transparency sliders on the texture tab of the edit box) are the killers and are used SO often. I’m not gonna get anal about measuring my own ARC (or other peoples) but taking a peak every now and then, and checking out things that potentially are laggy has been a real eye opener and made me much more aware of the impact I have on the people around me’s enjoyment of SL.
